Target audience summary

My target audience are looking for the music video to show the passion and story line of the song, but they want the song to be strong enough to stand on its own as well. But I want to put a little twist on this so that the audience can relate to the actress, and be able to model the story to their own situation. The twist is that the music video will have a story line but not a full one; this will then allow the audience to see it how they want, which should then widen my target audience.

Some people were saying that they want the music video to promote the artist so if they like the music they can then easily find more of her songs.

But there has always been a debate about which animal best represents Goths, but just in the last few months there has been the decision that wolves are that animal. And this was also backed up by my questionnaire; so this is the animal that I will use to visualise the actress’s personality.

Main music video idea

The song that I am going to be using is called 'Let it Burn' by me. Its a song that I wrote when I was in secondary school, and some of my friends sang the harmonies for me.

For the music video I want to have a Gothic, dark feel to it (so that it matches the genre of the song). I want to show a Gothic girl and represent her personality as a wolf. The wolf will be drawn and only lightly coloured, I will animated the images by using stop frame animation. I want to animate the wolf sing stop frame so that it doesn't move perfectly smooth; this will reflect the unsure emotions that the Gothic girl is having. Gothic people are stereotyped to like dark meaningful colours, such as black and red because they symbolise the blood, suffering and pain that they feel and cop with on their own or in small groups. And a wolf is a creature of the darkness, that happily spills blood for a meal, so they can be seen as similar.

Magazine advert analyzed 3

Volbeat:

The digipak’s black background makes it seamlessly fits on the black background of the magazine advert. The front cover of the digipak is used on the magazine advert so that the readers know what album and who’s album the advert is for at a glance. The standard bold font is a style that they use on all of their albums, this can be seen as boring but their fans would expect noting different, so continuing this style will keep them happy.

Stone Sour:

They have made the front cover of the digipak part of the background of the magazine advert to link them together. But when they have written the name of the album again they have used a different font which creates interest and show that readers that this is a separate media text; this new font still suits the genre and audience. The front cover of the digipak is used as part of the magazine advert so that the readers know what album and who’s album the advert is for at a glance.

The main body of information on the magazine advert is a standard font but I really like how they have not only created interest, but also broken up the text by using two colours.

Apocalyptica:

The background of the magazine advert is the same gray colour as the background of the digipak to link the two together. The cover of the digipak is on the advert so that the reader knows what album, and what band just at a glance; the readers will use this to see whether they are interested or not. The title of the advert is the same as on the digipak cover, which also links the two together.

A picture of the band is next to the digipak cover, as part of the background image. This shows the read who the band is, if they don’t know them by name. The band is wearing black clothes that link to the genre and link to the model on the cover of the digipak as she too is only wearing black.

The title and band name on the digipak is a cool font that suits the genre and it’s also used on the magazine article; but the rest of the text on the advert is a standard and can be seen as a little boring.
