Magazine advert - photo shot

I really like this picture as it shows the model to be a Gothic teenager that likes to play around with the styles, which is links back to the wolves that act them selves even in the packs, so even they are all the same, they are still easy to tell the difference between them.

This is a cool picture but I will not use the use it in my project because it isn't completely in focus.

I don't think that I will use this picture, because it makes her look a lot older than what he is and the body language doesn't make her look as strong in herself as what I was thinking of. But also you can see the choker which is one of the main parts of the Gothic style.

Again you can't see the choker, but see doesn't have the dominance that I was looking for. The costume makes her look like she is trying to be Goth, were a a true Goth would just look the part. So I probably wouldn't use this picture.

She has the dominance that I'm looking for and I like the sleeves of her top, but there is too much black.I probably wouldn't use this picture.

The coat finishes the shot but again there is too much black and you don't see that much of the model's face. So the audience may see her as untruest wealthy. So I probably wouldn't use this picture either.

I really like this picture, she has dominance, and looks like a true Goth.

But I've been thinking that I could use a picture that is more symbolic of the music video and Digipak, instead of link directly to it. This would create interest and keep the advert simple, but also it would make the advert stand out from the others easier so that her listener can quickly find her new songs, and albums as they are advertised.

Actress and wolf comparison

At the minute there isn’t much to compare, but when the wolf is coloured, he’ll be black and maybe some dark blue. I think that they have the same look and feel to them, which will also help the audience work out that the wolf is her personality. 

I want the wolf to have different colour marking than the creamy colour of the actress’s corset because the wolf isn’t a reflection of the actress, it’s her personality so it would reflect what she is like on the inside and not the outside. I decided that I will use a dark blue as she feels cut off from everyone else and unwanted, so the dark blue being a cold colour will show how she feels she’s being treated.

Costume design

I wanted the costume to be Gothic and I didn’t want it to have much colour, but at the same time it wouldn’t look right if it was all black. Also I wanted the skirt to be long and light. This meant that the wind would easily catch it and add movement to each shot, exaggerating the each move; this would help show her passion and frustration, which will help it fit with the song.I also want the make-up to be black and have simple but bold design.

With that in mind, this is the costume I designed:

Costume research

For the music video I want the costume to have a victorina Goth style, I was going to give the costume this style as this will show the viewer the lyrics can apply to anyone at any time. Also I wanted the Gothic genre of the song to be the strongist sign of the genre, because this way ohter people might watch it, also this will bring the viewers attention more to the song more than the video. This is improtant because at the end of the day it's the song that make them deside if they want to download it or not.

 

 The dresses are mostly black ordark colours, but they all long. The model will not be able to wear this style of dress because the long skirt is going to make the running scenes of the music video diffcault to do, as she could fall over the fabric. Also, most of the dresses have very compliated designs and patternings but I don't want the focus of the video to be the song not the costume or the model.

Most Gothic jackets are long (but they do wear short jackets too) and are laced at the back. The jackets are general black, sometimes with other colours and the level of design varies from simple to complex. But for the video I want a simple design and when used in the video, the front will be open to show the costume under neath.

 

They like lots of straps and moving fabric, so there are lots of folds in the fabric and parts (e.g. the sleeves) have extra metiral so that they just hang, this emphasises their movement. Even the straps move round, to emphasis their movement. Generaly they only have one or the other so that the two srtyles don't compet.

A Goths favouriate type of top is usual the corset. They really like the lace at the back of the corsets and some of the designs are amazing. Again the designs can varies from simple to complex, but for the video I will might use a corset that is coloured black and maybe anopther colour too.

Their trousers can be any colour, and most are covered in straps, some have chunky straps and some have thin straps. They add the colour by having the trousers themselves coloured or the straps coloured, but some are all in black and there are different styles for all types of Goths. There are more plain versions of their trousers and they are plain black baggy fabric trousers.

   

Their shorts are more like trousers with a section cut out near the top, also they have a piece of fabric that is held on by a strap at the front (like a belt) which is styled to be like half a skirt round the back. They can have all sorts of colours and designs on them and they normally have some straps. The straps on their cloths could be there to show the restrictions of their lives.

  

They wear long and short skirts, but they mostly wear long skirts. They don't usualy have straps on their skirts, they proffer the skirts to have a lot of fabric so that they flow in the wind, emphasises their movement and the wind. There are three main styles that they have their skirts in, one is with patterning of lace, two is with some ripes showing other colours. And the thrid is a plain black skirt. Some of their skirts have a trail of cloth behind them, but for the music video I think that the best will be a plain black skirt as the movement of it in the wind will visualise the fource of the situation she is in.

  

 

There is a large range of designs and colours that Goths use for their makeup, but the most common colours are blacks, reds, purples, and some other dark colour. These colours usual have a deep meaning to the Goth, for example, the black has been how they were recognised before the EMO's became known, the red would be for blood which they don't care about seeing or feeling of pain that comes with it. Also the purple could relate to mourning (they would wear black and dark colours until a lest three years had past from the date of the loved one's death) that the older generations use to do, to show their sadness; it was done mostly by the women, but it's used or seen much nowadays. At first glance this doesn't apply, but it could be seen as them connecting to the older ways as they are always seen as miserable all the time, and mourning was a way that people visulised their sadness.

The design ranges from effectively simple to amazingly complicated. This is used to show the Goth's taste and what they like, as each one creates their design to suit the time they have and what they want to see in the mirror each morning.

For my music video, I will use a mix of two or maybe three colours, and the design will be simple so that the makeup doesn't take up too much time. This will mean that we can get to filming the video quicker, and this will mean that more time is spent on filming then preparation, but also this means that the actress will not get cold as she waits for it all to be finished.
